Hi!
Welcome to Camlen Antiques Online!
Cameron
and Helen Brown began Camlen Inc. in 1982 as an
antique shop and a Christmas store in a growing
tourist town. The business grew steadily with
three expansions added onto the existing Victorian
building.
The Christmas store became well known for its
unique items and its comprehensive and creative
Department 56 displays. The antique business grew
steadily also, as Cam expanded his network of
antique pickers. In 1996, after wholesaling antiques
to one large American customer for more than a
decade, we began to expand our wholesale client
base. We increased to about eight different antique
dealers in Ontario, Bristish Columbia and the
New England states. In the process, we expanded
our workshop from one full-time employee to four
full-time people and began to manufacture 'antiques'
with old wood to keep up with the growing demand
for furniture to suit people's modern needs.
Over the following three years, our operation
continued to expand steadily and we began to make
solid pine furniture from new wood.
|
At the same time, we were buying and selling 150 year
old log cabins and using their interior wood for furniture.
In January 2000, we attended our first trade show in Toronto,
Canada where our product was very well received. In the
fall of that same year we moved and subsequently sold
the Christmas store, in order to be able to streamline
our business to furniture.
Our wholesale client list has grown incredibly as we reach
new clients each year at The Canadian Home Furnishings
Market. Through the website and other sources, we have
established a greater presence in the U.S.and we are continuing
to expand into that market.
We now have a workshop of about 36 people repairing, restoring
and refinishing furniture as well as several other cabinet
makers building our reproductions. In the last 48months,
we have brought over 18 containers of antique furniture
from Eastern Europe and 7 containers of antiques from
China which sell very well for us. Our retail store is
also open 7 days / week all year long. There, you will
find a great selection of all our furniture as well as
giftware for home decor and garden.
Whether your needs range from a small bedside table to
furnishing your own store, Camlen sells wholesale and
retail all over the world. With well established pipelines
to the U.S. east and west coast, and constant shipping
to the maritimes and the west, Camlen has the expertise
in all aspects of transporting, building, refinishing,
and even tailor making the right "antique" for
you.
Look on, and discover a company that has reinvented the
antique business, and set new standards for honesty, workmanship,
variety, value, and convenience.
